We follow very strict quality control procedures. This starts
with using a higher grade of lumber which produces longer lengths
than our much larger competitors. Proper kiln drying and conditioning
this lumber relieves the stress which allows the boards to remain
straight and flat after being ripped to size. Our moulder is fed
at one hundred feet per minute, about 1/3 of its capacity. At
this speed we get a much better job and know immediately if we
have a problem with the knives. The defects are cut out before
entering the end tenoner which puts the microbevel and tongue
and grooves on the ends. From there the milled flooring is graded
and packaged. Due to the large cost to purchase our own prefinishing
line we have ours done at one of the newest most modern UV cured
lines in Canada. We strive to have a clear crisp finish which
highlights the grain and natural characteristics of the wood with
very high durability and scratch resistance. Recognizing people
with dogs were choosing alternative floor coverings we introduced
our "DOG FINISH." Working with our chemical supplier we worked
hard to produce a finish with very high scratch resistance with
the old hand rubbed oil look. Although our "Dog Finish" has been
selling very well our normal 55% Gloss is still very popular.
We have many choices of species and colors in four different widths
(2 ¼",3 ¼",4" & 5"). We are continually working with interior
decorators developing new colors to keep up with the latest trends.
In November 2004 our moulding and trim line was introduced. We
felt that flooring and trim should be available and sold together.
Using our own lumber mostly purchased in Eastern Ontario and a
large experienced moulding manufacturer to mill the products in
both unfinished and prefinished in our most popular floor colors.
Our baseboard is available in 4 ¼", 5 ¼" and 7" widths. We also
have casing, crown mouldings and accessory floor and stair mouldings.
In May of 2004 we introduced our new showroom at 228 Victoria
Street in Tweed (across from the Bank of Montreal). We realize
hardwood flooring and trim is a major purchase and should be treated
that way. Instead of looking at small samples you see hardwood
on floors, walls and ceilings in rooms with furniture in a tastefully
decorated setting.
A tour through the building will show much history of the lumbering
industry throughout the area. See a post and beam lumber camp
from the late 1800's equipped with a whisky barrel water cooler
, cookstove, log bunk beds and a special friend in a trap. And
when ready you can do your business in our leaning two seater
outhouse equipped with an Eaton's calalogue. Our products and
workmanship are displayed throughout the building to give you
the confidence to purchase our products.
Many big flooring companies can rely on their name to carry them
through. With a name like "Gaylord" we would rather work harder
producing better products while giving excellent service at reasonable
prices.
